Christmas Around the World

I thought I would share a little of what we are learning about right now at our homeschool. For the next few weeks we will do a unit on Christmas Around the World. Each week we will look at a country/place and learn how they celebrate Christmas. I decided to do this unit because we are going to Helen, Ga the week before Christmas. We are planning to do Germany the week we are there( field trip!). This week we started with Mexico. We are making a lapbook for this unit which will include plants at Christmas time, recipes, songs, traditions, etc for each country. We made a Santa pinata. The girls made an Mexican ornament to go on there school Christmas tree.
They made a Mexican favorite Bunuelos( Boon - way - los). Of course we took the easy route and made them using tortilla's, 1 cp sugar, 1ts cinn, 1/4 ts ground nutmeg and oil. Laney cut the tortilla's into strips.

I fried them in oil until golden brown, drained and then placed them in a bag with the sugar, cinn and nutmeg.
These were yummo! The whole family and few neighbor's kids helped eat them up.

Can't wait to visit our next place. Check back to see where we go.
