Southern Blizzard 2010

Well, the weatherman was right . The snow actually came this time. My kids stood by the window all day Friday just waiting for those first few flakes. By that afternoon, it was time to play!
You can tell my kids are not used to being around snow. Griffin has seen it several times so he dressed appropriately. On the other hand, Laney has played in it maybe twice so she runs outside in a tank top and pants with no gloves, jacket or hat. She quickly learned she needed more on. This was Ella's first time to play in the snow. She was asleep last year when it snowed in Birmingham( we were on our way back from a youth conference and pulled over on the side of the road to play. I tried to wake her up but she wouldn't budge). I dressed her but she still complained about it being to cold. I guess she gets it from me. I am not a cold weather person. Give me the beach and the sun and I am happy!

They built a little snowman. I guess they did not want to use up all the snow in the beginning.

Ella's mouth is red in this picture from chewing on a snowman's eye(gumball).

Every time I saw Laney she had a ball of snow and was eating on it.

Nothing like taking a break for hot chocolate and snowman cookies.

Carmel was in Atlanta all day. So when he got home that night we headed back outside for some more fun in the snow.

After a restful night, it was time for more snow fun.

Laney eating on the snow.......AGAIN!
We wonder how much of Chewy's poop was balled up in those snow balls?

Griffin made a bigger snowman the next day.

While most of the snow is gone, the bottom part of this snowman is still hanging on outside.

After a full day of fun, Mrs. Crissy treated the kids to a heart shaped pizza.

It's all about the kisses!

Well, another holiday has come and gone. We spent last week celebrating Valentines with several activities. Some of the things we had planned were cancelled due to the snow(posting on that tomorrow). At school it was all about the kisses. We read several Valentines books, Ella counted out Hershey kisses........ Laney used kisses to help learn her multiplication facts...........

They painted Hershey kisses and once they dried they wrote Valentine messages on the back.........

They made Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies to pass out along with the Hershey Kiss cards.......

Now for the delivering. Daddy and Griffin each got an added bonus...A KISS........

They passed the rest out to friends at church.

Sunday morning everyone had a special Valentines waiting for them on the table.

Attention!! New dog groomer in town

I will let the pictures do the talking in this post!

Homeschool library time

We have been attending the homeschool library time at our local library for the past few weeks. I really like the way the kids part of the library is set up. It is separated from the rest of the library yet is still big enough to accommodate several families. The kids listen to a couple of books and then do a craft. The lady that does library time is wonderful but nobody has yet to compare to Ms. Heather at the Crestview library. We miss that library so much! Ms Heather always had several activities planned for all ages.

Frugal opportunity gone south!

I received a text from Chickfila that said " Come dressed in your pjs Tuesday and receive a free breakfast item. The cow will be reading stories. I will be there at 5:00." I am thinking hot diggity dog I know where I will be Tuesday morning.

So this morning, I tell the girls to keep there pjs on because we are going to get some free breakfast. I bring along my camera because I am thinking this will make for a wonderful blog post. We get there, walk in and........ I noticed no one else is in there pjs (They must not know about scoring free food. LUCKY US!). We are standing looking a the menu( I am telling the girls to order whatever they want)............ when I hear a lady say "You are just a tad to early"...... WHAT??? It is only 7:55. I thought it was from 5-8. She then tells me "PM!" I mention to her that I received their text and it did not say pm. I just assumed since it was breakfast....HELLO.......morning??????

Oh just wait it gets better..........

At this point I don't want to look cheap, so I order some breakfast and we eat. We literally sneak out the back and get in the car. While I am waiting on the girls to buckle, I check the text. NOPE......no PM anywhere in it. I am usually not a complainer but I thought Chickfila needed to know ....for next time of course.......to make sure they put pm. I send a friendly text with my ever so loving opinion. They respond within minutes and apologize. So I am thinking WOW... they sure are quick with their response. I must be special!!!!!!! Until the next text says...............

Are you going to the library today? WHO?????? WHAT??????? You mean I am not communicating with Chickfila.

I found out who it was and we had a good laugh!

In my defense........
1. I occasionally get text from companies.
2. There was no name attached to the text or number.
3.I receive emails from Chickfila so the text did not seem to weird.

And if you are wondering......no we did not go back that night.

Valentines skating party

We joined CGCHE( Central Georgia Christian Home Educators) a while back. Any of the activities you think your child may miss out on by not being in school they have it covered. They have so many things available to choose from like Book It, Girl's club, field day, field trips, etc. One of the things kids look forward to and get the most excited about are the parties. They had a Valentine's party at the local skating rink here. Laney was so excited. First of all, she loves parties but make it a skating party and she will do just about anything. I told her if she worked hard we would go. She was done with school by Thursday and even finished a few extra lessons. Off we went Friday to the skating rink. I wasn't sure how many were going to be there so I let the girls sign 16 Valentine cards each to pass out. I was only short about 40. I did not realize how many homeschoolers there were until we went to this party. You should have seen the boxes/bags lined up on the benches. I wanted to get a picture but there were kids lined up passing out their Valentines.

Ella doing the Hokey Pokey

Ella went around once with my help of course and was done. Laney however skated until they said go home.

It was a fantastic fun day!

The Cake

This past weekend we went to a birthday party for a little girl at church who was turning one. She is so sweet! Occasionally, we get to keep her during the day and my girls are by her side the whole time. I usually have to fight Laney for a chance to hold her.
I just love 1st birthdays. My favorite part of the whole party has to be........

THE CAKE
They start off with the unsure feelings of am I allowed. After much persuasion( in Laney and Ella's case putting their face in it with the help of daddy), a finger finally makes its way to touching the white stuff. They take that first bite of pure pleasure but still wondering if they will get that tap on the hand and hear the word NO. When mommy gives the look of approval, they continue with dainty bites( in Mariah's case one sprinkle at a time). Then comes the fun part............
the part where they tell themselves.... THIS STUFF IS GOOD! IT TASTE NOTHING LIKE BREASTMILK! They eventually make there way into a trance where it is just them and THE CAKE. The DEVOURING begins.......

Occasionally, they are distracted because the big people are laughing or even trying to get a bite. Do they not know that mom made a cake for them over on that table. Since mom has begun the teachings of sharing, some decide to share(baby slobber and all).

And about the time they are really putting a dent in the cake. Mom takes it away and the only part left is what is on there hands, face, nose, eyes, head, hair and clothes. After licking the only place they can see .....their hands, they are hit with the woozy and passing out feeling. They start leaning back a little more in their chair as they realize why......THEY HAD TO WAIT A WHOLE YEAR TO EAT THEIR FIRST CAKE.
