Montgomery Fun!

Last month, we went to help my mom with a reading camp for Inner City kids. We were busy with that most days but managed to seek in some fun as well!

We went to my aunts house for swimming along with the annual tour of her garden.

Looks like someone is going for a different kind of tan!

The kids loved picking from the garden.

Ella's favorite veggie is carrots. She was thrilled to find out it was an option.

The girls favorite part was to collect the daily eggs.

One night while we were there, we went to a Biscuits game.

Our trip would not be complete without a road trip in the RV.

Here are a few of the things we opted to do during our short travels.

Read the newspaper and color.

Read a magazine.

I choose to catch up on my coupon clipping!

Just to let you know this never happened. I would be too lucky!

Destination:

A truck stop gas station for breakfast.

I was really hoping for the beach!

Look who can handle a stick.........

We are still not sure about hills....or stop signs. We still receive whiplash every  few feet or so but who needs a steady neck. Stalling in the middle of the road is acceptable these day. Right??

I guess this post is more like a warning than a hip hip hooray! If you see a white Civic bouncing.......it's not hydraulics.

It's Griffin shifting gears!!!

Sometimes it's all about the accessories

Back in the spring, I bought this accessory at a festival. It is a little hat with a black and white flower bow on the front. There are 2 clips on the hat to hold it in place in the hair.

There is just something about a fun accessory that will make a girl smile.

What would you do if it was your birthday?

Laney's birthday was yesterday. Since she was not having a party, we asked her what she wanted to do on her day.

She immediately went to her room to make a schedule. This is what she came back with......

Wake up at 10:00( not intended for daddy)
Get ready at 11:00
Leave at 12:00 to go look for a bed for her room( This was for her birthday last year. Hi my name is mommy and I am a procrastinator.)
Eat lunch
Eat supper at Zaxby's
Get the new birthday milkshake( She thought this was created just for her since it came out close to her birthday.)
Get her bike
Rent a movie

Here is what actually took place.........

We woke up at 7:30 to the phone ringing. My dad loves to be the first to call for special events( Reminder: call dad at 12:01 am for his birthday!). Laney cooked us breakfast. We left at 11:00 to look for a bed. We ended up getting shoes, bookbag, water bottle and a shirt for school. Once Laney found out the birthday milkshake from Zaxby's was not created for her birthday, she chose Steak N Shake instead.

Maybe she chose it for the hat?

Maybe it was the car you get to put together?

She was definitely excited when she won this stuffed animal on the first try!

It was a fine anniversary dinner too.......

even with all the noise!

Next stop.....Toys R Us....then Target.....then back to Toys R Us for the bike.

picture of her new bike

Instead of a cake, she wanted to go to Menchie's for frozen yogurt.

We rented a movie and headed back home.

At the end of the night, we tucked her into bed, gave her a kiss and said goodnight. Then we were reminded of why we do not receive the Best Parents Award.

We never sang Happy Birthday!

So we ended her special day with a bedtime song.
In all kinds of crazy keys of course!

Today is a good day for 2 reasons

First, I get to reflect back on the day I married  my amazing, Christian husband.

Secondly, we get to celebrate the birth of our daughter 10 years ago.

Life is Good!

Eric Carle Reading Camp for Inner City Kids

A couple of weeks ago, we went to Montgomery to help my mom with a reading camp she was putting on for Inner City children. We met for a couple of hours each day for a week. Each morning as the kids were coming in, there were several morning activities to choose. There were games, matching cards, seek and find and puzzles.

Each morning Griffin led us in a devotional which consisted of a prayer, songs and a Creation lesson.

After the devotional, we read 2 or 3 Eric Carle books each day.

After the books, the 4 teachers each had a table with an activity related to the books from that day.
For The Tiny Seed, we made dirt cake at my table one day.

My aunt showed the kids how to grind your own wheat for the book Rooster's Off To See the World.

My moms table made seed books.

The last table made a flower with tissue paper.

Sometimes if a table finished their activity before time was up, they had a game to play.

For the last 20 minutes, we fed the kids lunch. I have not seen so much food being devoured in one sitting as I did this week. Many of them had 2 or 3 helpings and even asked to take some home.

Here are the 4 teachers from the week.

My own kids helped each day and several youth groups from different churches helped.

My mom did a wonderful job planning the whole camp!
